1Who we are

Standard Criminal Law (Standard) is a legal education platform based in Parramatta, NSW. Consultations requested through this site are provided by JBP Law, a criminal and traffic defence firm in Parramatta, NSW. This policy is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

2What we collect

Through the consultation form: your name, email address, phone number, the charge you are facing, your court date, and anything you write in the message field. You choose what to include. Do not describe the facts of your matter in the form; the form is for arranging a conversation, not for legal advice.

Through the course profile form: if you choose to save your details on a course, your name, email address, phone number, court date, the notice you hold, whether you agree to be contacted, the course you are on, and a link that carries your progress. Saving your details is optional. The courses work without it.

Through ordinary use of the site: the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, and your approximate location, through standard web server logs kept by our hosting provider.

Stored on your own device: the lessons you mark complete, the checklist items you tick, the answers you give in the decision blocks, your court date if you enter it, and your chosen register (plain English or full detail) are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you send yourself a progress link or save your details with us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

3Why we collect it

To respond to a consultation request, to arrange the consultation, and to conduct it. To send you material about your course and related guides, and to tell you about legal help, where you have ticked the box agreeing to be contacted. To understand how the site is used so that it can be improved. We do not sell personal information. You can opt out of contact at any time by replying to any message or writing to the address in section 8.

4Legal professional privilege and confidentiality

Information you give to a lawyer for the purpose of obtaining legal advice is confidential and may be privileged. The forms on this site are not a secure channel for privileged communications. Once a consultation is arranged, the lawyer will tell you how to provide documents and detail securely.

5Who we share it with

Consultation requests and course profiles are shared with JBP Law, which handles them as a law practice under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and the solicitors' conduct rules. Site data is processed by the hosting provider in section 6. We do not otherwise disclose personal information unless the law requires it.

6Service providers

This site is hosted by Webflow, Inc., which stores form submissions and server logs on infrastructure in the United States. No third-party analytics or advertising tools are installed on this site at the date of this policy. If that changes, this section will be updated and the date at the top of the page will move. Each provider is bound by its own privacy terms and by contractual obligations to us.

7How long we keep it

Consultation requests and course profiles are kept for twelve months after the last contact, or, if a matter is opened, for the period a law practice is required to keep client records, currently seven years after the matter closes. Server logs are kept for the period our hosting provider retains them under its own terms.

8Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where the law allows. Write to standardcriminallaw@gmail.com. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9Changes

This policy may change. The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.
